When I Survey The Wondrous Cross (292)

Call To Worship

Liturgist: Out of the depths I cry to You, O Lord! Lord, hear my voice!

Congregation: Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications!

L: If You, O Lord, should mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand?

C: But there is forgiveness with You, that You may be worshiped.

L: I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, in the Lord’s word I hope;

C: My soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning, more than those who watch for the morning.

L: O Israel, hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love. With the Lord is plenteous redemption.

C: And the Lord will redeem Israel from all iniquities.

Prayer For Holiness

Father, we give You free reign to search us by Your Holy Spirit and to make any changes in us that You deem necessary for our well-being. As You search each of us, we pray that You will cast out anything in us that is evil, sinful, harmful, or destructive. We ask You to purge our hearts of everything that is not pleasing to You; of anything that is not beneficial to us or those around us. We pray that Your love, mercy, and grace cover over us, and clothe us with the qualities that are pleasing to Father; we desire to be everything that You created us to be and intend for us to be. In Christ’s name, Amen.

*Scripture

John 17:13-19 (NIV)

13 “I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them.
14 I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.
15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.
16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it.
17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.
18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.
19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.

Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord, God Of Power And Might

  • Prayer Of Confession

God of infinite patience and love, we come to You this day, having just gone through the season of greed. We embark on this Lenten journey not sure if we want to make the spiritual trip. It is easy for us to get caught up in our own needs and our own anxieties. We are a people of great want, and we need to become a people of great faith. Stop us and remove us from the self-destructive journey on which we were living. Place us on Your track of hope and salvation. Forgive our stubbornness, and heal our sorrowful souls. For we ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
